At Senja, our surf coaches Musta and Azhar and their team are proud locals from Lombok. They combine their love for the ocean with years of surfing experience to give you the best lessons and surf guiding. Learn from locals and discover Lombok’s waves the authentic way. With ISA certification and international standards as our foundation, we ensure that every surf session blends safety with stoke – so you can focus on the joy of riding waves.

Azhar grew up with the ocean and loves the freedom and serenity it brings. For him, every wave is a new challenge and that’s what makes surfing so exciting. His favorite spot is Areguling – a challenging wave that keeps him motivated to improve. As a surf coach, Azhar loves to share this passion and joy with others. Helping someone stand on a surfboard for the very first time is always a special moment for him. And when he’s not in the water, you’ll probably find him enjoying a plate of Mi Goreng.

Musta grew up in a quiet village by the ocean, where his love for the sea and surfing began. Described as positive, skilled, and relaxed, he brings both passion and calm energy into the water. As an ISA-certified surf coach, Musta not only shares his joy for surfing but also ensures that every session is safe and professional. His favorite quote? “The best surfer out there is the one having the most fun.” With Senja Surf Collective, Musta wants to pass on this joy to everyone – from first-time beginners to experienced surfers. After a surf session, you’ll often find him enjoying his favorite local dish, Sate Ayam, the perfect reward after hours in the ocean.
HOW IT ALL BEGAN
Musta and Azhar have known each other for as long as they can remember. Growing up in the same small village in Lombok, they went to the same school, played together – and eventually shared the same passion for the ocean.
Musta taught Azhar how to surf (and yes, Azhar once ran him over with his board). What started as childhood adventures soon turned into a lifelong love for the waves.
For them, surfing has always been more than a sport. As Musta says: “Life is creating – every wave is a new story.”Today, both of them not only share the ocean but also the joy of fatherhood – with their daughters being the same age, just like them. From kids on the beach to surf coaches at Senja Surf Collective – their journey is living proof that surfing is about family, friendship, and connection.
